How we are caring for the planet and your hair at the same time!

What it means to be a sustainable salon

Sustainability, let’s save the planet together! Blanc Hair Studio is proud to be an eco friendly, Sustainable Salon. This means that we recycle up to 95% of our waste including hair, paper, plastic, metals, chemicals and broken tools. Each of the waste types are recycled separately & distributed/sold to different companies to be repurposed & kept out of landfill. All of this profits are donated to Ozharvest and Kiwiharvest. Sustainable salons create amazing products from the recycled waste such as planters, dog leads, hair combs, fertiliser and more!

Hair

We definitely have what feels like an endless supply of hair after each day in the studio, the best part of this is that none of it will go to landfill! The recycled hair is used to help soak up oil spills on our land and in our oceans by a team called “hair blooms” Hair blooms are stockings filled up with hair that works as a large sponge. Sustainable Salons have collected 28, 700kgs of hair that can soak up to 95, 800L of oil! We also accept hair donations at the studio. Any pony tail donations made by our beautiful clients at the salon are up-cycled into wigs for individuals with cancer or alopecia.

Paper, Metal and Plastic

All of our paper & cardboard waste is recycled & created into new products. So far approximately 193, 700kgs of paper has been recycled! The metals that are recycled at the salon include foil and colour tubes. These products are repurposed into new aluminium packaging, already 188, 600kg has been recycled! Our plastics are transformed into a number of new supplies. A company called Plastic Forest, based in Victoria transforms our plastics into underground cable covers, landscape supplies & product packaging. Other hard plastics become eligible for a return & earn program. The profits are donated to Oz Harvest and Kiwi Harvest.

Chemicals

Chemicals are collected, pooled and sent to chemical recycling plants where they’re neutralised and turned into recycled water. Select disposable hygiene products used during treatments are pulled apart and the materials are sent for repurposing.
